I provide consultation, treatment and assessment to individuals and couples, in both English and French.

I usually suggest that we begin by meeting one or two times in order to gain a clearer understanding of your concerns, as well as to gather other information concerning your past and current circumstances that may be helpful for us to understand.  These sessions also give us an opportunity to get to know one another, to see if you feel comfortable working with me, to discuss what may be helpful for you and also to make a decision about working together.

Individual Psychotherapy

In psychotherapy, I focus on developing a positive working relationship in which people can feel safe, and which can allow us to work together at gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and of the difficulties you are experiencing.  Psychotherapy can involve support and the learning of some new skills to help you cope with distressing feelings, in order to help you feel more in control of your life, especially if these feelings make it difficult to function from day to day. In addition, psychotherapy involves looking closely at your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, as well as understanding your past experiences, to help identify patterns that are a source of difficulty, and which in turn could lead to making positive changes to help you feel better. Generally, sessions take place weekly.

Psychoanalysis is a more intensive form of psychotherapy in which sessions take place on a more frequent basis (up to three or more times each week).  This increased frequency allows for greater continuity in the treatment, helping us to identify what influences the way you feel.  This approach also helps us to understand and identify long-standing, repeating patterns of thought and behaviour, including recurring difficulties in your past and current relationships, and offers the possibility of dealing more effectively with these issues in your life.

Couple Counselling

Couple counselling can be helpful in developing an understanding of the difficulties you may be experiencing in your relationship. Treatment can include identifying troublesome patterns in your relationship that could be affecting your ability to feel close with one another or that are causing distress between you, developing your communication skills, learning to manage anger and work through conflicts, as well as deepening intimacy.  Usually, these sessions take place on a weekly basis.

A psychological assessment can be provided if you are experiencing emotional difficulties such as depression, stress or burn-out, or difficulties following a traumatic accident, which are interfering with your ability to work. Such assessments often examine issues of disability and treatment planning, and may be requested by your insurance company or lawyer.

Sessions are usually 50 minutes. The remaining time in the hour is used to write a brief note about our session that is helpful for our work.
